The **Annapurna Circuit** is widely regarded as one of the most iconic long-distance treks in the world. Encircling the massive Annapurna Massif in central Nepal, it takes you through an incredible range of landscapes—transitioning from lush, subtropical pine forests and terraced farmlands into a high-altitude, windswept Tibetan plateau, before descending into the rain-shadow desert of Mustang.

## Route Overview
The traditional circuit follows a counter-clockwise loop along two river valleys:
1. **Marsyangdi River Valley (Ascent):** Starting in the lower foothill region (Besisahar/Dharapani), you trek up through Gurung and Manangi villages like Chame and Upper Pisang until reaching **Manang (3,540m)**. Trekkers usually spend an extra rest/acclimatization day in Manang to prepare for the high elevation.
2. **The High Pass (Thorong La):** The pinnacle of the trek involves climbing up to **Thorong High Camp** and pushing over **Thorong La Pass (5,416m)** early in the morning.
3. **Kali Gandaki Valley & Mustang (Descent):** After crossing the pass, the trail drops sharply down to **Muktinath**—a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists. From there, the trail leads through Kagbeni, Jomsom, and down through the world's deepest river gorge (Kali Gandaki).
> **Side Trip Note:** Many trekkers add a 2 to 3-day detour to **Tilicho Lake (4,919m)**, one of the highest lakes in the world, which branches off from Manang.

## Best Time to Trek
* **Autumn (October – November):** The most popular season. Expect clear blue skies, stable weather, and excellent mountain views, though the trails and teahouses are busier.
* **Spring (March – May):** Warm temperatures, blooming rhododendron forests, and melting snow on high passes.
* **Winter (Dec – Feb):** Very cold with heavy snow at high elevations; Thorong La Pass is often closed due to snowstorms.
* **Monsoon (June – Sept):** Lower sections suffer from rain and mud, though northern sections (Manang and Mustang) fall under a rain shadow and remain relatively dry.
